Over the past few months, it has felt like we are running a half marathon with no finish line in sight. The situation in Australia is now looking more positive each day which is great to see.
Given the recent uncertainty around the running of mass participation events, we wanted to update you on how we are progressing towards The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon presented by Bupa Dental this year.
With just over 5 months until the 29th edition of The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon presented by Bupa Dental, and no confirmed timeline of when the government restrictions on mass gatherings will be lifted, we understand you may feel a bit nervous about committing to an event right now.
We want to reassure you that our team, with the support of our stakeholders, are fully focused on delivering the event on Sunday, 15 November 2020.
Following guidance from government health agencies, our team is working hard on creating a set of best-practice operating guidelines to ensure your event experience is a safe and enjoyable one. More information will be shared over the coming months about what you can expect to see and experience at the event.
In the meantime, if you are thinking of entering and to help give you peace of mind, we wanted to answer your most common questions upfront:
What if the event does not take place on Sunday, 15 November 2020, for reasons relating to the Covid-19 Pandemic? If this happens all registered athletes will have their race registration moved to the 2021 event date. We will provide as much notice as we can, and if this doesn’t work for you we will provide other options such as an Event Credit, which can be used on any of the IRONMAN Group’s portfolio of events in Australia.
What if I am unable to get to the 2020 event (or, if rescheduled, the 2021 event) due to border restrictions? If this still remains the case less than 30 days out from the event, affected Athletes will be offered an Event Credit to the value of your entry (including additional purchases).
While we feel confident about still delivering the event this November, we hope by providing this information up front it will give you the confidence to enter.
Our team has loved seeing so many people out walking and running around our iconic city recently and we hope to celebrate a return to running events with you all soon.
